Where Can I See Free Mugshots in Delaware County?

You can find mugshots in Delaware County, Indiana, in different ways (online, by phone, in-person, or requests) through law enforcement agencies, such as the prosecutor’s office and the sheriff’s office.

For more recent records, these are mostly handled by local police departments while state records can be located via the Indiana Department of Corrections and the Indiana Sex & Violent Offender Registry.

You can utilize the tools and resources offered by the agencies above to help you view mugshots. Each will be outlined in the subsequent sections along with helpful links, databases, and guidance for seamlessly obtaining these records. Next up is the process of finding offender photos through county level resources in Delaware County.

How To Locate Delaware County Mugshots Without Cost

The Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office is the law enforcement body responsible for putting criminal offenders on trial and making sure that those who are guilty are put behind bars.

The prosecuting attorney releases reports regarding convicted and sentenced individuals, which are then kept in the office for documentation.1 You can view these documents online and see the mugshot of the convicted person.

In addition to the offender photo, the reports generally contain news about the court rulings and charges, the individual’s name, their birthday, and a brief narrative of the crime. In some reports, you can also see attachments of affidavits and memorandums, which may contain further information about the person—arrest details included.

If you have questions, email the prosecutor’s office at [email protected] or call (765.747.7801).

Another government agency responsible for law enforcement in the county is the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office. Arrestees—at both county and city levels—are booked in the county jail under the sheriff’s office. Following this, they offer a jail roster to help locate inmates in their custody, but it doesn’t display mugshots.3

On the bright side, they have a most wanted page and a sex offender registry which do display offender photos.

Most Wanted Persons: Front and side view mugshots of wanted individuals are posted beside their name, address, age, sex, race, and other physical characteristics that help people identify them.4 Their charges are also displayed. If the individual is captured, it’s reflected as well.

Sex Offender Registry: The Indiana Sex & Violent Offender Registry is a statewide database where you can search by county, including Delaware.5 Under the said department and the sheriff’s office, you can view information on sex offenders in Delaware online.

Among the details you can find when you enter at least a last name in the input field are the following:

  • Mugshot
  • Name
  • Sex Offender Level
  • Address

You can view even more information (e.g. physical description, offenses, other addresses) when you select a person’s name.

If you seek details not found in the aforementioned online options from the sheriff’s office or you’d like to get a copy of records, you can inquire online using the same contact page as above, call them at (765.747.7885), or visit in person.

Lastly, it also lists the programs offered to the inmates under their educational services (e.g. counseling, life skills classes, basic education).

This resource also contains information about other criminal, property, and vital records.

State prisoners also get their photos taken for identification. These mugshots appear through state agencies but rarely through county resources even if the individual lived locally.

The Indiana Department of Corrections (IDOC) maintains an online repository that allows interested parties to look up state prisoner details. Provide either the name or DOC number of the person to initiate a search.

If you search by name, a table listing the matches will be displayed, with columns for the offender’s name, DOC number, birthday, race, sex, and the facility they are held in—mugshots aren’t included in this search option.

However, you can see mugshots via the Indiana Sex & Violent Offender Registry.5 They have an online search tool where you can locate sexual offenders by county. The details you may find using this search are the same as what is previously discussed in an earlier section (name, sex offender level, address, thumbnail mugshot, physical description, offenses, and other addresses).

Prisoners housed in a federal facility in Indiana (or other states in the country) are watched over by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). Start utilizing their federal inmate locator by entering either the prisoner’s name or BOP number. Despite not having offender photos displayed, they do give out useful details such as their register number, location, and release date (if applicable), among others.

All of this data—from the city up to the state and federal sources—are accessible due to the Indiana Access to Public Records Act (IC 5-14) and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) respectively.10, 11

Whether for personal or professional use, all gathered information shouldn’t be used to discriminate, harm, or intimidate individuals. The proper use of these records in the professional setting is also outlined in the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

As you navigate your way through gathering criminal records via a Delaware County mugshot search, keep the aforementioned laws in mind.
